Galati Musical Theatre “Nae Leonard”, the only institution in Romania promoting all kinds of musical performances (opera, operetta, symphonic concerts, musical comedies, children shows),was named after a great Romanian tenor, native of Galati who, at the beginning of the 20th century, gained international recognition for the Romanian vocal music.

      Situated in the South-Eastern part of the country, Galati is a powerful industrial center, a harbour on the Danube, with a rich musical past and agenuine dramatic and lyric theatrical tradition.

    Once, it was the most important cultural center in Romania, when its “Italian Opera and the orchestra were conducted by Iosif Ivanovici, a famous composer and creator of the well-known waltz “The Danube Waves”.
